Is Being Tired Making You Fat?
There is more truth to getting your beauty sleep than you may think. Not only does it make your skin look dull and your eyes puffy when you don't get enough sleep, it can actually make you snack more according to a recent study from the University of Chicago Medical Center. Adults who got five and a half hours of sleep ate 221 more calories from snack foods than those who slept for eight and a half hours. They also took in a higher percentage of those calories from refined carbs. If you are exhausted, your body will crave carbs to replenish its energy reserves. Lack of sleep raises levels of a hunger hormone. On days when you haven't had enough sleep the night before, be sure to snack on low-calorie foods.
