Over Her Dead Body

I watched the movie Over Her Dead Body a few weeks ago.  It is about a psychic who is hired to contact her client's dead fiance.  His fiance is played by Eva Longoria.  The psychic, Ashley, (Lake Bell) feels sorry for her client and begins telling him lies to make him think she has really contacted his fiance.  The lies get out of hand and she gets in over her head.  This movie is a little bit predictable and not one of those movies where you walk away saying, "Wow, that was a great movie!"  But it actually was really good and it was very funny.  My husband watched it with me, and he actually liked it. It is a chick flick so he watched it against his will.  But, he thought it was pretty funny.  I would definitely recommend this movie.   

Youthful Skin

I was a teenager in the late seventies and early eighties.  In the seventies I was a big fan of Saturday Night Fever and wore the satin clothes and platform shoes.  I was in middle school and I remember going to my first dance in a pair of white satin pants and a pink satin shirt.  I had the pants made because I was really skinny and couldn’t find any in my size.  I wasn’t the most gorgeous girl in middle school.  I had big thick glasses and braces.  But, I tried!!  When I started high school in 1979, I made the freshman cheerleading squad.  I got contacts, still had braces, and fried hair from so many perms.  By the time I was a senior in high school, I had discovered that a tan could make you look a little more attractive. So, I became a sun- worshipper.  My family installed a swimming pool in the backyard and I baked all summer long. I went out around 10:00 each morning and didn’t come in until the sun went down.  I developed an addiction.  When I began college, I was one of the first in my town to discover tanning beds.  I tanned all year round. I still tanned in the summer in the tanning bed in between days I was out in the regular sun. I ALWAYS had a beautiful, “healthy-looking” tan.  Well, I continued with my addiction throughout my 20’s and most of my 30’s. When I was about 35 I noticed my skin texture was looking pretty bad. I was developing fine lines and wrinkles.  I continued to tan……By the time I was 38, I looked to be about 48.  I decided it was time to do something about my skin, and whatever else I could do to make myself look younger because I looked older than I should have.  I began researching and reading beauty magazines.  I had remembered reading somewhere that Christy Brinkley used glycolic acid products.  I then read somewhere that glycolic acid peels were good for smoothing out fine lines and repairing sun damaged skin. I found a dermatologist in my area who performed the peels and made an appointment.  They were about $100 a peel.  I began having these once a month.  My skin finally started to glow again.  The crow’s feet around my eyes remained but the texture looked great.  The dermatologist used M.D. Forte products.  I purchased the complete line and used it for a few years. It was really worth the money.  There were high levels of glycolic acid in these products.  I found a physician’s online that sold these products at a cheaper price.  Then I switched dermatologists and this office used Glytone products.  I started using this line and loved it!! I’m using these products still.  I use the whole line because they work together. Although, I will add a few products from a different brand just to enhance the results.  One of the most important things to remember is……If your skin texture looks bad, even if you don’t have any wrinkles, you will look older.             

Grilled Steak Sandwich

I’m a big Rachel Ray fan.  I found this recipe in her summer cookout special.  I made it and my family loved it!!

Grilled Steak

Sandwich

1 onion, thinly sliced     2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar     two 1 ¼ thick boneless rib-eye steaks         1 baguette, split, then quartered crosswise         4 slices havarti cheese

1. In a medium skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.  Add the onion and balsamic vinegar and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes; season with salt and pepper.
2. Meanwhile, preheat a grill pan over medium-high heat.  Rub the steaks with olive oil, salt and pepper.  Cook for 6 minutes on each side for medium-rare.
3. Grill the bread, cut side down, until toasted, about 4 minutes.  Slice each steak in half crosswise; place one half on each baguette bottom (trim to fit, if necessary).  Top each with a cheese slice, some onions and a baguette top.    

Eat This Not That

If you are trying to lose weight or just trying to eat healthier, you need to read this book. It is by David Zinczenko. It lists about any restaurant you can imagine, gives you their menu items, the number of calories, fat grams, and sodium found in some of their most popular foods. It suggests lower calories foods to eat, instead of the other more fattening foods.  I couldn’t believe some of the choices.  Many times I was making the wrong choices, thinking I was eating less fat. I could have eaten the food I actually preferred.  It also provides better choices for holidays and special occasions, products from the supermarket, drinks, etc. This is a small paperback book.  I carry it in my car all the time, so when I drive through and get take out for lunch, I’ll make a better choice.      

Waitress

  What was the last movie you saw?  The last movie I watched was “Waitress.”  It was really good.  It was written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, who was murdered shortly before the film’s selection for the Sundance Film Festival.  It’s about a waitress (Keri Russell) who works in a pie diner.  She also makes pies. (Sounds corny, but it’s not.) She has this horrible husband that she hates and she becomes pregnant.  Enough said…. I don’t want to tell the whole movie. It’s a really funny movie worth watching. Does anyone have any movies to recommend???

   Happy Fall Everyone!!  It's been a while since my last post.  I can't believe summer is officially over.  I live in the eastern part of the country and we've had terrible weather.  It has been the rainest, coolest summer I can remember.  I'm sad to see summer go, especially since I feel like we didn't have a summer.  Many people love this time of year, but I don't really like the cool weather.  I just try to make the best of it.  I think the colored leaves are absolutely beautiful and I love fall flowers and pumpkins, but I just don't like the cool nights and the thoughts of the long winter ahead. I hope to post a lot of interesting information on my blog this month to keep you informed of all the fun stuff I come across, and hopefully I will get some comments from you to keep things flowing!  Thanks for reading.......

My name is Judy.  I am 43 years old, happily married, with one son and two step-children. I also have two basset hounds, Hannah and Flash. I have a full time job and spend a lot of time doing housework, laundry, grocery shopping, and everything else that women do.   But, I do find time during the day to do things for myself.  I have found this to be the secret for a happy life.   It seems that when most women reach their mid-thirties they begin to live in a rut.  At this point in our lives, many women spend little time doing things for themselves, or doing things that make them happy.  I designed this blog to be sort of a “sisterhood”.  Many of us are so busy we don’t have time to get together with our friends like we used to.  When we were in high school most of us were part of a “Clique” This website is a special “Clique” for women who are in their mid-thirties and older.  It is for sharing ideas for celebrating our lives and who we have become.  I am no expert,  I spend quite a bit of time researching and trying products and procedures for anti-aging.  I also like to travel, workout at the gym, run, shop, watch movies and eat. The eating usually contradicts my dieting plan, but oh, well. I hope to eventually attract hundreds of readers who will participate and share their ideas along with mine.  We can all read information on the internet and see advertisements for products on TV and in magazines.  But, it would be great to hear first hand from real people about what works and what doesn’t. There are many beauty blogs circulating, but a lot are from professionals and people who are trying to sell their products. This blog is also designed to discuss favorite places to travel, and what you liked or didn’t like about a certain place or accommodation. We can also post recipes, pictures, diet and exercise tips, and rate movies. Although we may never meet in person, we will develop a special friendship online and belong to our own “clique”.  Some may spend hours on this site and some may click on just for a few minutes a day to keep in touch.   Whatever the case may be, it will be fun to share our ideas with others throughout the world in our age bracket. The possibilities of this blog are endless.  I look forward to developing new friendships and hope you will as well. Please forward this link to anyone you think might be interested!
